The three-bedroom Dea Amy is fully self contained and completely private with its own garden, swimming pool, living & dining pavilion and kitchen, while sharing the common facilities of a spa, gym, children’s playground and staff service area with the other Dea Villas.

Villa Dea Amy can be rented on its own or in conjunction with one or more of the other Dea Villas, offering guests anything up to a 16-bedroom renting option.

ABOUT
Villa Dea Amy is an exotic blend of old and new, showcasing how the traditional wooden ‘joglo’ houses of Java can be upgraded with the modern comforts of the 21st century. Presenting three bedrooms and an exquisite, hand-carved, century-old, Javanese ‘joglo’ as its focal point, Dea Amy comprises a series of single-storey buildings resting upon three levels within a tranquil tropical water garden. The main joglo – once the home of a nobleman – is incorporated within the villa’s open-sided living and dining pavilion, which sits between an ornamental pond and a freeform swimming pool. The kitchen is a separate room adjacent to the dining area. One of the guest bedrooms is located on the lower level, while the master and another guest bedroom are positioned on the higher level. All of the rooms are linked by a splendid covered walkway that runs the length of the property, its alcoves and walls filled with eye-catching framed photographs taken by the owner, paintings and a fascinating collection of Indonesian and Chinese antique artefacts.

The contemporary tropical architecture of Villa Dea Amy utilises local materials including red brick, Palimanan stone, teakwood, volcanic stone, and river rock, capped with traditional red tiles for the roofs. The eclectic interiors ooze with style, visual texture and rich fabrics, with modern teakwood and all-weather rattan furnishings, harmonised with Asian antiques and artefacts.

ACCOMMODATION
Bedrooms
There are three air-conditioned bedrooms at Villa Dea Amy, each of which is complemented by a dressing area and a semi-open-air ensuite bathroom. Each is thoughtfully equipped with a safe deposit box, a 32-inch satellite-channel TV and DVD player, and an iPod docking station.

The master suite is located at the highest level and presides over the property with a private terrace at the front, accessed via glass doors. The terrace is bordered by a pond, complete with bubbling water features, and furnished with a bench and a double sunlounger, enabling guests to look out over the water garden and swimming pool below. Featuring a polished teakwood floor under a soaring roof, the master incorporates a spacious sitting area furnished with a sofa and two cushioned armchairs, a coffee table, and a writing desk. A king-size bed is built into the centre of the room and surrounded by netted drapes, while a flat screen TV and DVD player is provided for the guests’ entertainment. Behind the bed is a dressing area fitted with wardrobes, shelves, a built-in dressing table and a mirror. To one side of the suite is a semi-open-air bathroom with a pergola roof draped in flowering thunbergia. The bathroom is fitted with twin washbasins, a toilet, a semi-open-air walk-in monsoon shower, and a funky river rock bathtub for two, which sits in the centre of the floor, with a couch to one side and a wooden screen for privacy.

Sharing the same building as the master suite but with a separate entrance, is a guest bedroom furnished with twin beds, a desk, fitted wardrobes, a built-in dressing table, and a glass lantern, which hangs from an ornate beam. The partially open-air ensuite bathroom is fitted with a walk-in rain shower and toilet, and a river rock bathtub open to the sky underneath a fragrant frangipani tree. Glass doors from the bedroom open to a private terrace with chairs and a table guarded by a statue of the Hindu elephant-headed god, Ganesha.

Another guest bedroom is positioned at the lowest level, accessed via eight stone steps, which lead down from the living and dining pavilion with ponds on either side. This standalone suite presents a king-size bed built into the core of another antique joglo, which extends into the trapezium-shaped roof within a tent of netted drapes. A fretwork teakwood screen creates an ornate feature behind the bed, a couch rests at the end of the bed, while a window seat provides a place to laze and a desk provides a place to work. More glass doors on the side open to a small terrace furnished with two chairs and a table with views of the neighbouring rice fields via peepholes in the garden wall. The room has a walk-in dressing room, which leads into the ensuite bathroom fitted with double washbasins, a toilet, walk-in rainshower, and a river rock bathtub under the stars within a private walled garden.

Living and Dining
The open-sided living and dining pavilion presents tropical living betwixt the pool deck and the ornamental pond. Cooled by paddle fans, with timber pillars, a terrazzo floor, and roof that appears to extend upwards forever through the ornately-carved tiers of a honey-coloured teakwood joglo, the pavilion is divided into a sitting area and a dining area. The sitting area is furnished with comfortable sofas, armchairs, and a coffee table, while antique statues have been fondly placed in well-lit settings that show them off to their best advantage. The dedicated dining area is furnished with large dining table together with bench seats and chairs that will accommodate up to 10 or 12 dinner guests. The pavilion is lit by signature glass dome hanging lanterns. A striking feature in one corner of the pond is the ‘dancing flames’ – a gas-driven fire bowl filled with water. As the gas bubbles up from below the flames jump around creating mesmerising shadows at night, especially when viewed through the fretwork of the palimanan stone frieze adjacent to the dining table.

FACILITIES
Kitchen
Positioned to one side of the dining area is a small self-contained kitchen, fully equipped with an imported oven and hob, a large refrigerator, and everything else that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals, in accordance with the whims of his guests.

This is supported by a rest area, a six-person sauna, an outdoor Jacuzzi, lockers, showers and toilets. Here, skilled therapists combine beauty and well-being with traditional treatments such as mandi lulur, reflexology, or Balinese massage designed to relax tired muscles and relieve stress while awakening mind, body and soul.

Gym
An impressive, air-conditioned, glass-fronted gym is located adjacent to the spa, sharing the spa’s facilities of lockers, showers and toilets. The gym is fully equipped with a Power Plate for acceleration training, an exercise bike, a bench, weights, a body solid multi gym and a satellite channel TV. This is a communal facility for all guests at Dea Villas.

Children’s Playground
Another communal facility, provided for kids staying at Dea Villas, is the fully equipped children’s playground, which is a rare feature at villas in Bali. Set in a walled area close to the gym, the playground presents a sandpit, a Wendy house, twin swings, a slide and a baby slide. At one end of the snaking pathway is an antique ‘bale’ pavilion, where the adults can relax on cushions while they watch over the kids.

Swimming Pool and Garden
Villa Dea Amy is embraced within a serene, terraced water garden that covers three levels with a freeform, waterfall-fed swimming pool on the central level. Bordered by palms and a rice field, the brick-walled garden is filled with flowering shrubs, frangipani trees, birds-nest ferns, pandanas, heliconia and trailing vines. Sunloungers rest on the stone pool deck, and innovative wooden slats in the wall can be opened for a sneaky view of the rice field. A relaxation pavilion capped with a thatched roof and fashioned from an antique daybed sits upon four stone boulders beside the pool.

LOCATION
Villa Dea Amy is located within the beautiful agricultural belt between Kuta and Tanah Lot, an area that is home to some of the most luxurious private residences on the island. The trendy Seminyak area, with its wide choice of international restaurants – including the famous Ku De Ta, Living Room, Nutmegs at Hu’u, La Lucciola, Potato Head Beach Club, SIP, Sardine, and Sarong – together with a plethora of chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant boutiques, is a mere 20 minutes’ drive away. There are also numerous chic boutiques in the Seminyak area, as well as furniture, antique and homeware stores in the nearby Kerobokan area. Neighbouring sporting facilities include the Canggu Club, offering sports, social and leisure facilities, with a state-of-the art gym, a 25-metre swimming pool and a tennis & squash centre.

For horse lovers, the Umalas Equestrian Centre is just a few kilometres away, and Nirwana Golf Course –designed by Greg Norman and renowned as one of the best golf courses in Asia – is a 20-minute drive. The nearby Berawa Beach is known for its world-class surf breaks, offering an exposed reef break with consistent surf. May to October (dry season) is the favoured time for waves. Reef breaks provide lefts and rights – in fact, the nearby Canggu Beach presents one of the few right-hand waves on the west coast of Bali. At Echo Beach, there is a strip of cafes and restaurants, one of which serves a daily barbeque of fresh fish, lobster, giant prawns, clams, steaks and kebabs. Live music takes place here on Sunday evenings, starting at around sunset.

The villa is 45 minutes’ drive from the international airport (depending on the traffic) and convenient for all of the Island’s main shopping malls and tourist attractions, including Tanah Lot, Bali’s most dramatic and venerated sea temple.
