The contemporary-styled Villa Joss embraces all the comforts of tropical living while also introducing guests to the local culture through a remarkable collection of fine art. The bedrooms and living spaces of this luxury villa in Bali showcase some beautiful paintings and limited-edition litho prints by some of Indonesia’s best known artists, while the entranceway and 12-metre swimming pool is the setting for two majestic stone carvings. Completed in 2010, the walled garden and graceful interiors offer an abundance of space, natural light and places to relax. The gorgeous entrance to Villa Joss is a covered walkway bordered by fish ponds and draped in a hanging garden of trailing green vines, while the pool deck is punctuated with big pots of flowering lotus. The interiors of the villa have been lovingly furnished, accented with colour and completed with delightful attention to detail. Villa Joss is named after the owner’s daughter.
BEDROOMS
There are four bedrooms at Villa Joss, situated in the two-storey sleeping pavilion. Three are furnished with king size beds and one with twin beds, and each has an ensuite bathroom, as well as a spacious dressing area with plenty of hanging space. Each is equipped with a 32” satellite channel TV (plus a DVD player upon request), air-conditioning, a ceiling fan and a safe deposit box. The walls of all the bedrooms are adorned with some very beautiful original artwork by well-known artists. Two of the bedrooms are located on ground level with glass doors opening onto a covered terrace beside the swimming pool, while the other two are located on the upper floor with sliding glass doors that open onto a delightful shared balcony offering big sky views of Bali’s carefree kites flying over the treetops and rooftops. The balcony features a comfy sitting area as well as a dining table with four chairs, making it a lovely spot for breakfast.
ENSUITE BATHROOMS
All four spacious ensuite bathrooms are fashioned in non-slip rough tumble marble tiles on the floors and walls. All are fitted with walk-in monsoon showers, washbasins on polished black granite vanity units, and toilets. Each of the two downstairs bathrooms are fitted with a huge bathtub beside a glass wall, twin washbasins, and two showers – one indoors, and one under the sky in an adjoining open-air courtyard with high walls for privacy and a pebbled floor planted with helicon as and giant taro.
LIVING AREA AND SWIMMING POOL
The living area is approached via a spectacular covered walkway surrounded by a fish pond and curtained in cascading green vines. A one end of the walkway is a water cascade and a serene Buddha welcome statue. The air-conditioned living and dining pavilion is characterised by a soaring timber-lined roof with four fans, a marble floor and concertina glass doors on three sides that can be opened to invite the garden indoors. The room is furnished with a deeply cushioned leather sofa, two armchairs and an arched reading lamp. On the opposite side is a large dining table for ten lit by hanging lamps?
The garden has a 12 x 4 metre swimming pool with a non-slip rough marble pool deck embellished with big pots of lotuses. There is a cool Jacuzzi in a separate section at one end of the pool, and a splendid, 500-kilo, reclining Buddha statue crafted in river stone and resting against an Indian slate wall with a water cascade.
Positioned in a quiet spot on the far side of the swimming pool is a rectangular open-sided ‘bale’ pavilion. One side of this is dedicated to alfresco dining and furnished with a dining table for eight, while the other side is designed for chilling out within a U-shaped cushioned sitting area. A 32” TV is positioned up on high, making this the perfect spot to laze the afternoon away while watching a live sports broadcast or romantic movie. The bale is also a great place to enjoy a barbeque prepared by the staff. The barbeque grill is housed in a special unit close by.
KITCHEN
There are two fully equipped kitchens at Villa Joss, one is the service kitchen and domain of the excellent Chef and the Assistant Cook, hidden out of sight at the back, and the other is an open plan kitchen incorporated within the living and dining pavilion. Fashioned in polished black granite and gold-&-silver-streaked slate, this feature kitchen is equipped with a fridge, gas hob, cooker extractor hood and other imported appliances. It is characterised by a wide service bar, which is lit by hanging lanterns and furnished with three high stools.
This air-conditioned multipurpose room is a home theatre, entertainment room and business centre, distinguished by a polished teakwood floor, a trio of blue globe lanterns, and folding glass doors. One half of the room is fitted with an L-shaped built-in desk that runs along two walls, equipped with plenty of electricity sockets so that guests can plug in their laptop computers and make use of the WiFi internet connection. The other side of this spacious room is furnished with a large comfortable sofa and a shelf unit full of magazines, books and local artefacts. It is equipped with a 42” satellite-channel TV, DVD player and surrounds sound.
